This Friday at 11:30 AM, the school is proud to welcome the Yale a capella group, Shades, to campus. The group includes Andres Fuentes-Afflick ’05, who is currently a sophomore at Yale. To find out more about Andres, click here: http://www.sfschool.org/alumni/pdf/gazette_summer_2009.pdf and see the Alumni Profile on page 7. To learn more about the group, visit http://www.yale.edu/shades/. Please note, the Activity Room has limited space and our priority will be to make certain the students and teachers (K-8) have a place to sit. If you would like to attend, please plan on arriving a bit early and find some standing room.

8th Grade Trip Information Night
All 8th grade students and parents are encouraged to attend the information night on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, from 7-8:30 PM in the Activity Room, to learn about the new Nicaragua trip. The trip organizers from ViviandesLeon will be on hand to present and to answer questions, and guests from San Francisco Friends School will talk about their own experiences on this trip last year.

Race to Nowhere
The provocative documentary film "Race to Nowhere" (www.racetonowhere.com) – the dark side of America's achievement culture – will be shown for free (first come, first seated) at Lowell High School’s Auditorium on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 7 PM. The film presents "a reminder of the human and societal costs of our current education system," says Dr. Jim Taylor, education blogger, Psychology Today. The San Francisco Chronicle says "the film provides a ifeline to stressed-out teens." The film runs 85 minutes, and may be preceded by a fund-raising reception with the Director / Producer Vicki Abeles. The showing will be followed by a Q&A session led by Lowell students and facilitated by the Wellness Center.
