Meet the Board

A message from our Board of Trustees introducing themselves, the Board’s priorities, and the many committees that work to benefit the SFS community.

Though many know the administration, faculty, and staff of SFS through the daily lives of our children, they may be less familiar with the board of trustees and its work. We would like to introduce ourselves!

The priorities of the board are to uphold the mission and ensure the financial well being of the school through long-range goals and plans, as well as evaluating and supporting the Head of School. Our board includes fifteen current family members and four staff members including the Head of School. Additionally, there are six trustees who are alumni, alumni parents, or members of the outside community, typically with knowledge of independent schools. Working closely with committee chairs, members of the administration attend the board’s monthly meetings, as does the chair of the Family Association. These individuals serve as ex-officio (non-voting) board members.

This year, we welcomed seven new members:  parents/guardians Jessica Tomlinson (8th/5th), Baljeet Singh (K), Nikki Ford Morthel (8th/4yr old), and Neal Hansch (2nd); teachers Toni Russell and Carla Morris; and FA Chair Rachel Benson (3rd/K).

Much of the work of the board is accomplished through its committees, such as Advancement, Diversity, Finance, Investment, Public Purpose, Risk/Audit, and Site. Many of these committees are open to community members as well. Diversity and Public Purpose meetings are regularly noted in the school calendar. If you are interested in another committee, please contact the committee chair.
