Ruth Chang Hess

Parent of Alumna (2017) and 8th Grader
Since she joined the board in 2010, Ruth has led the Committee on Trustees, Board-Staff Partnership Task Force, and Risk Management Committee. In 2013-2015 she was board vice chair. Other roles at the school have included auction chair; tour guide; room parent; and member of the Advancement, Campaign, Community Center Project, Compensation, Diversity, Executive, Nominating, Strategic Planning, and Web Committees.
After studying public policy at Duke University and the University of Glasgow she worked as a systems integration consultant in Accenture’s public service practice, web entrepreneur, and investor in a fund focused on education technology ventures. She loves volunteering in the community and for Duke.
With her large extended family full of educators, Ruth values the chance to serve on the board. She is inspired by her children’s extraordinary time at SFS to help make it an even better place for people to work, play, learn, and grow for many years to come.
