Inside SFS

Dee Desmond

Parent of Alumni

As a parent and educator, Dee has been an ardent advocate for and supporter of The San Francisco School for more than 25 years, when her children became SFS students. Dee’s sons, Matthew ’03 and Daniel Watson ’05 attended SFS from preschool (one in North and one in South Class) through 8th grade. Her sons thrived during their time at The San Francisco School and continue to provide their parents with evidence of the lasting benefits of the school’s joyful, enriched, academic, progressive education.

After a long career in public education, Dee is currently the Program Director of the Bay Area Teacher Training Institute (BATTI) Educational Leadership Program. The program offers a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and a California Administrative Services Credential. She also coaches aspiring school leaders through the U.C. Berkeley Principal Leadership Institute and supervises student teachers through San Francisco State University.

Prior to joining BATTI two years ago, Dee worked for 30 years in San Francisco Unified School District in a variety of central office administrative positions including Assistant Superintendent/Bayview Zone, Associate Superintendent/Curriculum & Instruction, and Executive Director/School Reform. Her favorite job, though, was being principal of Dr. Charles R. Drew Elementary School in the Bayview District for 13 years.  She began her career as an elementary and middle school teacher in San Jose. Dee holds a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Stanford.

A native of Miami, Dee moved to the Bay Area in 1973 and now lives with her husband, Jim Watson, in Glen Park. She is thrilled to be a member of the SFS Board of Trustees and have the opportunity to express the gratitude for the education her children received here.
