Ellen has served on the SFS Board of Trustees since 2010 and is in her third year as Board Chair, prior to which she chaired the Public Purpose Committee. She and her wife, Kate are the proud parents of SFS alumnus Ben Dyer ’17, who entered SFS as a 3-year-old and is now a freshman at the Bay School of San Francisco.
A native of California, Ellen graduated from Smith College and began her career in health education and counseling during the height of the AIDS epidemic at the Whitman-Walker Clinic in Washington, DC. She obtained her Masters of Social Welfare at U.C. Berkeley and worked at Stanford Medical Center as a psychiatric social worker from 1992-2012. She subsequently held the position of Independent Living Donor Advocate at UCSF’s kidney and liver transplant programs. Ellen currently serves on the board of the Nicaraguan Children’s Friendship Committee, a small non-profit serving impoverished youth (ages 12-24) to become self-sufficient and healthy individuals.
Ellen is an avid documentary photographer. She loves the outdoors, gardening, travel, cooking and spending time with her family.
