Middle School Students Create Models of Cells and Atoms

Tagged with:

In what has become an annual tradition at SFS, our Seventh and Eighth Grade students have created detailed models of cells and atoms as part of their science curriculum.

The 8th grade project asked students to design and build a 3D model of a specific atom of their choice their choice, showing the atomic structure (including protons, neutrons and electrons). The model must be free-standing and creative. This model served as the assessment for the unit on atomic structure.

The 7th grade project asked students to design and build a 3D model of a cell- either a typical plant/animal or a specialized cell. The model must be free-standing and contain a key explains the model and the function of at least seven cell organelles (exceptions for specialized cells). This model served as the assessment for the unit on cells.

We always hear that the models get better and better each year, as students gain inspiration and ideas from the class before them - we can’t wait to see what they’ll come up with next year!
