I love the busy pace of school nursing. I couldn’t ask for more!
In my graduation from kindergarten, my classmates and I gave one line speeches. Mine was “When I grow up I want to be a nurse!” I became a journalist, a flight attendant, a teacher, a para educator…..and I encountered the school nurses, working one-on-one with a child, or taking care of the whole school. I loved what they did, and wanted to do the same.
I went back to school for my nursing degree, and it’s only now that I’ve come full circle and am doing the work I studied for. My little (and big patients…..everybody’s taller than me!) are like family to me, and their families are, as well. I like to involve parents and guardians in every aspect of their beloved child’s life. Nursing is holistic, and does not just take care of an ailment or issue, but the whole person, the family, and even the community!
