The San Francisco School is a wonderful community. We are an independent, coeducational day school for Preschool through Eighth Grade. SFS is a vibrant school with a focus on strong academics , conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and creativity.
Founded in 1966 as a Preschool, SFS has grown to include 280 students and about 70 staff members. The San Francisco School is committed to ethnic and cultural diversity, with 66% students of color and an inclusive ethos. Family economic diversity is also an important goal and is supported by a strong Indexed Tuition program which includes 28% of students paying reduced tuition. Through all of this, the entire SFS community is committed to creating a school where students and families can learn with confidence and joy.
Finding the right school for your child can be a challenge. At The San Francisco School, we strive to be open and honest with our process. The Independent Schools of the San Francisco Bay Area is a website specifically designed by Admissions Directors from San Francisco Independent Schools for prospective families to provide advice on how to navigate the process.
The San Francisco School values the richness of its diversity and actively seeks students from racially, socio-economically, and culturally diverse families, including lesbian, gay, and transgender families, single parent/guardian families, adoptive, and foster families.
The San Francisco School is committed to fostering and sustaining an inclusive learning community and does not discriminate based on race, color, national or ethnic origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion, or physical ability to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the School. The San Francisco School applies all legal non-discrimination standards in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs and activities.
