Bears Have a GGGRRRREAT 2024-25 Fall Season!

There were record numbers in this fall’s cross country runners and volleyball players! The 2024-25 season was exciting for both teams, and we are very proud of their accomplishments as athletes and good sports.
From novices to experienced runners, the Bears practiced hard, ran through foggy meadows and blazing hot trails. The Bears were fortunately to have veteran coach Talia Goodkin ’98 (5th grade head teacher) as well as Taylor Ciatto (lower school Health & Wellness teacher) and Karla Robertson P’28, ’34 (volunteer parent).
Throughout the four meet season, the students performed incredibly well with numerous first place finishes for girls and boys, 5-6th and 7-8th divisions, and individuals and teams. SFS sent many qualifying runners to the San Francisco Athletic League Finals, and the 5 - 6th grade girls team won the team championship, the first SFS team to do so in this division. There were many top 10 individual medal finishers as well, including first place in 5 - 6th grade girls (another first for SFS!). A total of seven runners placed within the top 10 in their divisions.
This year’s varsity volleyball team (coached by volunteer Dave Russell P’31, ’35) was extremely competitive. The players were committed and hard working throughout the entire season, and we are so proud that they made it to all the way to the semifinals.
Junior Varsity had a large and enthusiastic team coached by Sam Vu, and as the season progressed, they came together and steadily improved with great energy and chemistry. We look forward to next year’s season!
And 6th graders participated in developmental volleyball, providing fundamental skill building, introduction of game rules and strategies, and scrimmage opportunities. Led by Ava Dornseif, the team practiced hard and scrimmaged several times during the season.
Congratulations on a GRRReat year, Bears!
