MOSAICS: the 2024-25 Opening Painting Project

The Opening Painting Project (OPP) is an annual tradition for SFS students to engage in a themed art project, and this year, they have been exploring mosaics! With art teachers Tiphani Russell and Sadie Wilcox, preschool to 8th grade students created beautiful mosaic works that have been on display at school in the Karen Goodkin Gallery and in local public spaces!

The beautiful artwork has been featured in our annual OPP calendar for 2025, and mosaics of floral bouquets created by our 6th graders are exhibiting currently at Pinhole Coffee (Bernal Heights) and Out the Road (the Portola).

Additionally, we have been fortunate to partner with alumni parent and mosaic artist Colette Crutcher P’04, who is well-known for her local work (such as the 163-step staircase mosaic on Moraga Ave at 16th Ave). She has been working with upper school art teacher Sadie Wilcox and students to collaborate on a campus mural project to be launched in the coming months!
