Athletics
The Athletics program complements the overall San Francisco School curriculum by providing students with positive learning experiences through challenges of athletic discipline and responsibility.
We offer competitive athletic opportunities for our students to develop lifelong skills, personal growth, and a strong sense of physical fitness and wellness.
The success of our athletics program is based on the student athlete experience and how the Athletics program contributes to each child’s development. Through guiding principles of commitment, character, community, and leadership, the athletics program seeks to develop student athletes physically, mentally, and socially to prepare them for their next stages in life.
SFS primarily competes in the San Francisco Athletic League (SFAL) which is comprised of many independent schools within the city. The San Francisco School Bears compete in four interscholastic sports:
- Cross Country (fall)
- Volleyball (fall)
- Basketball (winter)
- Futsal (spring)
Over 70% of our Middle School students participate in the athletics program, and 5th Graders are eligible to participate in cross country. In accordance with our mission, all interested student athletes are welcome to participate. Home cross country meets are held in near by McLaren Park, and home games in volleyball, basketball, and futsal are played on campus in the Steve Morris Community Center.
